The Right to Life Trumps All Others

I say it all the time, not just during election cycles. The right to life is the first issue for politics, but also for everyday decisions. The right to life trumps all other rights, because without life, there is nothing else.

Right to Life Trumps All Other Rights

When I think of the Declaration of Independence, I think of, “we are endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights, among these are the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These are consecutive and not concurrent. The right to life trumps one’s right to liberty and liberty trumps the pursuit of happiness.

Trump means to rank above others. I find it astonishing that Donald J. Trump is a serious contender for the highest office in the land. It has, in fact, been the highest office in the world. I’m not at all sure that is the case today. The overwhelming discontent in our country has been brought about by years of divisive policy and ungodly characters. Who didn’t know that Mr. Trump was a scoundrel?

The amount of vitriol about everything in this season has been fueled by many things. It seems like everyone is ready to be offended at everything all the time. There are real life and death consequences too. Protests, turning into riots, raging fears and hatred, exploding into murders, and trauma crushing souls are the norm these terrible days. ~In the last days… right?

President Trump?

But what if even some of that energy was directed in right ways? What of, instead of railing against presidential candidates, Christians worked toward bringing Christ to the forefront with loving deeds, like rescuing those drawn toward the death at the doors of the abortion vendors? If we reach out to desperate people with words of faith, instead of condemnation? What if some of the energy used to bash each other was used to promote solutions to crises?

Is the presidency important? Ya, but isn’t the girl headed to the killing center important? And that woman working inside, tormented by the things she sees, she is important, right? Isn’t your local school full of the next generation of leaders important? They all need to know the Truth. We have each been created uniquely, and we have been created for purpose.

Humans are not simply animals. The immense amount of energy that has come against Trump supporters because of his bombastic comments could have been spent in positive opposition. As has been said, 80 million copies of 50 Shades of Gray were purchased by US. The movies and tv we watch have the same crap all the time.

Triggering Respect

For those triggered by his comments, how do you deal with the barrage of  sexual savagery all around us? Let’s not kid ourselves. His comments were bad and there will be more. But why are we allowing that to distract us? I refuse. And just in case you think I have no right to redirect anyone, I redirect myself daily. My family will tell you how often I walk out of the room or turn the tv off. Or they will tell how many discussions we have had about respecting people at all levels.

You may know, I was sexually abused from toddlerhood. I was sold into sex trafficking and have been raped numerous times, dragged off, drugged, threatened, beaten, thrown out, gang raped by so many in a college dorm that I couldn’t walk out on my own. So, I know sexual violence and I know the results.

The cost of the cultural disrespect is all around us. People don’t have a clue how to respect each other. We believe we have no value. Too many of us serve our bodies, instead of a sense of dignity. We live base lives, a little lower than some animals instead of a little lower than the angels.

Blog after article after commentary is complaining about Trump. Few actually espouse anything positive. The complaints are well founded, but please let’s start using some of that same energy to bring the whole US to wholeness.

The Bigger Picture

You are valuable. Your life matters. You are worthy of respect and your dignity should always be acknowledged. We are called to a higher purpose. Our mission is to seek and save that which was lost. That dignity, that honor, that value of the human race is worth our time and attention.
